Rainbow Falls descends 80 feet over a natural lava cave into the Wailuku River in Hilo, Hawaii. The cave beneath the falls is the mythological home to Hina, the ancient Hawaiian moon goddess. Rainbow falls owes much of it's beauty to the lush rain forest vegetation on the rocky walls of the gorge.

I enjoyed using bold brushstrokes in this painting to bring out detail in the thick foliage. The free fall of water into the sparkling pool is wonderfully captured. Truly a gorgeous scene!

Many of my paintings are inspired by tropical scenery. I've always found it to be relaxing and beautiful. This piece takes me back to Rainbow Falls and the beautiful greenery there. I hope it takes you there as well 😊
